The American Bible Society, a well-known, donor-supported, non-profit ministry responsible for the first bibles in hotels and the first pocket bibles for soldiers, was created in 1816 in New York City to distribute bibles and Scriptures. Today ABS focuses on advocacy and resourcing via partners and the Internet, like www.bibles.com. ABS continues its domestic and international outreach and distributes millions of bibles annually.
